... Unusual late season cold weather...
An unseasonably cold air mass from western Alaska is sweeping
southeast toward the northeast Gulf and the Panhandle Saturday
into Sunday and will likely interupt the growing season over many
parts of the northern Panhandle early next week.
Colder air aloft may support some sleet mixing in with rain in the
Yakutat area tonight into Sunday morning. While much less
likely... rain showers Sunday into Sunday evening over the northern
Panhandle may have some sleet or ice pellets mix in with heavier
showers.
Once the cold air has settled and skies begin to clear Sunday
night... parts of the northern Panhandle will see frosty mornings
into early next week. Temperatures will lower into the upper 20s
for the Yakutat area with low temperatures reaching into the lower
30s for wind sheltered and low lying areas near Hoonah...
Gustavus... Elfin Cove... Pelican and Juneau.
Residents should prepare to take plants indoors as temperatures
in these areas may drop to around 30 degrees for a few hours
during the early morning on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday morning
temperatures may begin to rebound slightly... but frost and
freezing temperatures are not out of the question.
