... Coastal Flood Advisory in effect until 1 PM this afternoon...
The National Weather Service in Eureka has issued a coastal Flood
Advisory... which is in effect until 1 PM this afternoon.
* Coastal flooding... high astronomical tides... already above
normal water levels... and westerly swell will lead to minor
flooding in low lying areas along the Redwood and Mendocino
coasts. The water level is expected to peak at around 9 feet
above mean lower low water level at the North Spit tide
gauge... around 1 foot above the predicted tide level.
* Timing... high tide is at 1025 am at the Humboldt Bay North Spit
tide gauge. Flooding may begin an hour before or continue for an
hour or two after high tide.
* Impacts... low lying areas will experience minor flooding
including... but not limited to... roadways in King Salmon and the
Arcata Bottoms. In addition high surf and strong winds will push
water much higher up the exposed beaches. This may impact
exposed areas of Highway 101.
A coastal Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.
