... Flood Warning remains in effect for Mower... northern Floyd and
Mitchell counties until 800 am CDT...
At 120 am CDT... emergency management reported that flooding was
occurring across much of Mitchell County... and the southern portions
of Mower County... and the far northern portions of Floyd County.
Most of the heavy rainfall is moving north out of the warned
area... and at least for the next 6 hours. Additional showers and
thunderstorms... with heavy rainfall... is possible later today.
Some locations that will experience flooding include... Austin...
Charles City... Osage... Adams... Brownsdale... Floyd... Grand Meadow... Le
Roy... Lyle... Nora Springs... Riceville... Rockford... Rose Creek...
Rudd... St. Ansgar and Stacyville.
Reports out of Mitchell and Mower County still indicate that
widespread flooding is still occuring... though there is some very
minor improvement. However... given that between 4 and 8 inches of
rain fell... there remains a very serious flooding threat through the
morning hours.
Numerous roads are closed... impassable... and are barricaded. Do not
attempt to travel unless you have to. Stay home... stay safe. Highway
218 between Osage and St ansgar is closed.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Excessive runoff from this storm will cause flooding of small creeks
and streams... country roads... normally dry washes... as well as
farmland along the banks of creeks and streams.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. If flooding is observed... act quickly. Do not
enter the water. Turn around and move up to higher ground. Do not
stay in areas subject to flooding when water begins rising.
Flooding is occurring. It is important to know where you are
relative to streams... rivers... or creeks which can become killers in
heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks.
