... On this date in weather history...
In 1902... a violent F4 tornado struck the small Texas town of Goliad... located in extreme south-central Texas. Possessing a path 15 miles long and around 250 yards wide... the twister killed 114 people which... at the time... was the deadliest tornado in Texas history and the 11th deadliest in United States history. On may 11th... 1953... the Texas record of 114 deaths would be tied by the Waco tornado but which had injured 597 more and caused $41 million damage.

In 1980... Mount Saint Helens erupted in Washington state.Spewing ash and smoke to around 63,000 feet... the Volcano killed 57 people.
