Statement as of 10:10 am CDT on May 25, 2013 ... NOAA Weather Radio all hazards awareness day... Today is the 1st annual NOAA Weather Radio all hazards awareness day in Nebraska. NOAA Weather Radio all hazards is known as the "voice of the National weather service". Working with other federal and local agencies, NOAA Weather Radio is an "all hazards" radio network. In addition to broadcasting important watches, warnings and statements for all types of hazards both natural and technological as quickly as possible, it also provides continuous broadcast of the latest weather information and forecasts from your local National Weather Service office. This makes NOAA Weather Radio all hazards the single source for the most comprehensive weather and emergency information available to the public. With the NOAA Weather Radio all hazards network you will always have access to potentially life-saving emergency information. During severe weather, National Weather Service personnel will interrupt routine weather broadcast and insert warning messages concerning immediate threats to life and property, a special alert tone can also be activated that triggers an alerting features on specifically equipped receivers. In the simplest case, this signal activates audible or visual alarms indicating and emergency condition exists within the broadcast area of the station. National Weather Service offices across Nebraska will recognize the day with various activities. National Weather Service North Platte will be teaming up with knop news and radioshack to program radios at the North Platte river mall from 11am to 3pm.
