... August 2014 ended warm and wet for North Platte and cool and wet for Valentine ...
After seeing a very wet June then a very dry July... August returned to an active pattern and above normal rainfall across the area. North Platte actually ended up with the 8th wettest August on record. Typically July is the warmest month of the year... by about 2 degrees over August... however in 2014 August ended up warmer than July... thanks to a cool July.
For North Platte... the average daily mean temperature for August was 73.0 degrees... which was 0.9 degrees above the normal of 72.1 degrees. The average daily high temperature was 86.8 degrees which was 0.7 degrees above the normal of 86.1 degrees. The average daily low temperature for the month was 59.2 degrees which was 1.0 degrees above the normal of 58.2 degrees. No temperature records were set at North Platte.
For Valentine... the average daily mean temperature for August was 72.2 degrees... which was 0.6 degrees below the normal of 72.8 degrees. The average daily high temperature was 85.4 degrees... which was 1.6 degrees below the normal of 87.0 degrees. The average daily minimum temperature was 59.0 degrees... which was 0.3 degrees above the normal of 58.7 degrees. No temperature records were set during the month of July.
At Lee Bird Field in North Platte... precipitation for August totaled 5.10 inches... which was 2.81 inches above the normal of 2.29 inches. This ranks 8th as the wettest August on record. The wettest August occurred in 1950 when 7.16 inches was recorded. One daily precipitation record was set during the month. On August 27 a total of 1.33 inches was recorded. This broke the previous record of 1.10 inches set in 1903.
At Miller Field in Valentine... precipitation for August totaled 2.62 inches which was 0.44 inches above the normal of 2.18 inches. No daily precipitation records were set during August.
