... February average temperatures were below normal... while precipitation was slightly below normal for both North Platte and Valentine...
February 2015 saw a large swing of temperatures with lows below zero to start the month. Temperatures quickly rebounded for the second week of the month with highs in the 60s and even some 70s. The second half of the month continued to see a swing of temperatures... however not to the extreme we saw at the beginning of the month. The coldest mornings were below zero while the warmest days reached the 50s. February was generally an active month with numerous storm systems moving across the area... however most produced only light precipitation.
For North Platte... the average daily mean temperature for February was 27.8 degrees which was 1.2 degrees below the normal of 29.0 degrees. The average daily high temperature for February was 42.7 degrees... which was 0.3 degrees below the normal of 43.0 degrees. The average daily low temperature was 12.9 degrees... which was 2.1 degrees below the normal of 15.0 degrees. One temperature record was set at North Platte during the month. On February 10 the low was only 31 degrees... which tied the previous record for highest daily minimum set in 1999 and 1991.
For Valentine... the average daily mean temperature for the month of February was 25.8 degrees... and was 1.4 degrees below the normal of 27.2 degrees. The average daily high temperature for the month was 40.0 degrees... which was equal to the normal. The average daily low temperature was 11.6 degrees... which was 2.8 degrees below the average of 14.4 degrees. Two daily records was set during the month of February in Valentine. On the 6th... the high temperature reach 64 degrees... which tied the record set in 2009. The following day... on the 7th... the high soared to 73 degrees. This broke the daily record high of 70 degrees set in 1987.
At Lee Bird Field in North Platte... precipitation for February was 0.46 inches... and was 0.04 inches below the normal of 0.50 inches. No daily precipitation records were set during the month for North Platte. Snowfall for the month totaled 6.3 inches... which was 1.0 inches above the normal of 5.3 inches. No daily snowfall records were set during the month for North Platte.
At Miller Field in Valentine... precipitation for February totaled 0.31 inches... which was 0.17 inches below the normal of 0.48 inches.
