Areal Flood Advisory
Statement as of 4:14 PM EDT on May 21, 2013
The National Weather Service in Albany has issued an
* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for minor flooding of poor drainage areas in... south central Albany County in east central New York... northern Columbia County in east central New York... this includes the city of Chatham... northeastern Greene County in east central New York... extreme southwestern Rensselaer County in east central New York...
* until 1015 PM EDT
* at 413 PM EDT... thunderstorms with heavy rain were moving across the area. Radar estimates that as much as 3 inches of rain has fallen in some locations.
* Additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is possible in some areas. This may cause minor flooding of urban... low lying and poor drainage areas.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.
