* Flash Flood Warning for...
Medina County in south central Texas...
eastern Zavala County in south central Texas...
Frio County in south central Texas...
southeastern Uvalde County in south central Texas...

* until 430 am CDT

* at 129 am CDT... Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
a thunderstorm producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to
five inches of rain has fallen in the warned area... and a new line
of storms is beginning to move into eastern Uvalde and western
Medina counties. Additional flash flooding is expected to begin
shortly.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Pearsall... Hondo... Devine... Dilley... Castroville... Batesville...
Moore... Lytle... Sabinal... Natalia... Lacoste... Frio Town...
D'Hanis... Pearson... Bader... Noonan... Goldfinch... north Pearsall...
Loma Vista and west Pearsall.

Additional rainfall amounts of up to three inches are possible in
the warned area.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Move to higher ground now. Act quickly to protect your life.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. If flash flooding is observed act quickly. Move
to higher ground to escape flood waters. Do not stay in areas subject
to flooding when water begins rising.

* at 1217 am CDT... Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
that up to ten inches of rain has fallen over parts of Kendall and
blanco counties. Widespread rainfall totals of two to six inches
has fallen over the warned area. Another line of thunderstorms
with heavy rainfall is forecast to move through the area over the
next six hours... likely producing an additional one to three
inches of rain. Widespread flash flooding is occurring... so any
additional rainfall could produce catastrophic flash flooding.

* From late tonight to late Sunday night... or until the warning is cancelled.
* At 10:30 PM Saturday the stage was 9.8 feet.
* Flood stage is 12.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river level will rise above flood stage by early Sunday morning
and continue to rise to near 16.7 feet by Sunday morning. The river level will
fall below flood stage by Sunday afternoon.
* Impact... at 17.0 feet... major flooding of crop and pastureland, traps
livestock and can drown them. Secondary and primary roads and low bridges are
flooded and dangerous..
* flood history... this crest compares to a previous crest of 16.9 feet on Sep 16
1991.

The Flood Warning continues for the Frio River at Concan.
* At 9:30 PM Saturday the stage was 11.6 feet.
* Flood stage is 11.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river level will continue rising to near 14.5 feet by very
early Sunday morning. The river level will fall below flood stage on Sunday.
* Impact... at 15.0 feet... major flooding increases very quickly to several feet
deep over the Frio River banks of recreation camps near Rio Frio to near
Concan. Sleeping campers, autos and recreational vehicles can be washed
downstream. This is a life threatening level..

the Flood Warning continues for the Nueces River at Laguna.
* At 9:30 PM Saturday the stage was 7.8 feet.
* Flood stage is 10.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river level will rise above flood stage by very early Sunday
morning and continue to rise to near 10.4 feet by early Sunday morning.
The river level will fall below flood stage on Sunday.
* Impact... at 10.0 feet... minor lowland flooding reaches low water crossings on
Highway 55 above Barksdale on Hackberry creek. The Nueces River crossing at
Barksdale is very dangerous. East of Camp Wood farm to Market 337 crosses Camp
Wood creek in three places. Vehicular related drownings have occurred at all
these sites..

* Forecast... the river level will rise above flood stage by late Saturday evening
and continue to rise to near 16.4 feet by Sunday morning.The river level will fall
below flood stage by Sunday afternoon.
* Impact... at 16.0 feet... moderate lowland flooding inundates lowest secondary
roads and bridges in the flood plain from the headwaters to the Frio River
confluence..
* flood history... this crest compares to a previous crest of 16.2 feet on Jul 18
1990.

* Through Sunday evening

* additional thunderstorms capable of heavy rainfall will move
across south central Texas producing additional rainfall totals
of 1 to 3 inches with isolated additional amounts to 5 inches

* Due to the very moist conditions of the grounds and soils in
the area... rapid flash flooding of low water crossings and
some roadways will be possible where heavy rains develop. Area
rivers and streams are also elevated. Some of these rivers and
streams may reach their flood stages very quickly.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means flash flooding is possible in or near
the watch area. If you are in the watch area... plan now for what
you will do if flash flooding develops. Stay informed and be
ready to act if you see flooding or if a Flash Flood Warning is
issued.

Do not drive into flooded roadways. The majority of flood related
fatalities occur in vehicles. If you see a flooded roadway...
remember... turn around... dont drown.
