This afternoon...showers and thunderstorms continue along and just behind a stationary front that was located along a line from near Goldthwaite to Waco to Mexia to Frankston. These thunderstorms continue to produce gusty winds...hail...frequent cloud to ground lightning...and heavy rain. Otherwise...skies were fair across most of north and central Texas. Temperatures to the north of the front were relatively cooler with readings generally in the 70s and 80s. Elsewhere...temperatures were in the mid to upper 90s. Through late afternoon...showers and thunderstorms will continue...with some strong to severe storms possible. The main hazards will be strong winds...hail...frequent cloud to ground lightning and heavy rain. The most likely area for showers and thunderstorms will be along and south of the Interstate 20 corridor. Otherwise...expect fair skies with temperatures in the 70s and 80s. Elsewhere...temperatures will remain hot with readings in the mid to upper 90s.

... Waco reaches 100 degrees for the first time this year...
At 338 PM CDT... Waco Regional Airport reached 100 degrees. This is the first time this year that we have reached the century mark.
The average date of the first 100 degree day at Waco is July 4th. We have reached 100 degrees as early in the year as March 28th back in 1971. The latest occurrence of 100 degrees is October 4th back in 1983.
There have been two years when we did not reach 100 degrees... 1919 and 1920. The greatest number of 100-degree days in a year was 90 in 2011.
The first 100-degree day last year was on June 25th. Today is the latest in the season that we have reached 100 degrees since 2007 when it took until August 12th to reach a triple-digit high.
