... A bitter cold airmass will continue across the region today
through the weekend...
An Arctic airmass will remain entrenched through the weekend with
highs only in the single digits... above and below zero... and low
temperatures ranging from 10 to 25 degrees below zero. Any wind will
make temperatures feel even more bitter. If you plan to go
outdoors... make sure you dress in multiple layers with the minimal
amount of skin exposed. This will help to reduce your risk of
frostbite. Additionally... consider your pets and outdoor animals and
provide them with the comforts they may need during this strong cold
snap. If you are traveling... ensure you are prepared by keeping an
emergency kit in your vehicle.
In addition to the Arctic cold... light snow will return to the
western mountains Friday... then quickly translate eastward Saturday
afternoon across much the rest of the forecast area before exiting
the region later on Sunday. At the moment it appears that snowfall
will be more limited due to relatively low moisture availability...
with totals Friday through Sunday ranging from 3 to 6 inches in the
western mountains... to a trace to 2 inches everywhere else.
