Occasional light rain and showers will continue this afternoon into tonight. The showers will try to change to snow late tonight, but if the colder air that is moving in gets esablished enough, the precipitation could end for a while late tonight and early Friday morning. I’d say there is a 50% chance of this happening. The NAM says it will, the GFS says no. Either way, if it is not snowing when you first get up Friday morning, I would expect snow to develop dur...

NWS Taunton is going to issue Winter Storm Watches for parts of southern New England at 4 PM today.

On this date in 1993 our area was hit by the so called “Storm of The Century”. The storm affected a lot of the eastern half of the country. Too much mild air (for snow) got pulled into the circulation, though, and I recall experiencing many hours of heavy sleet and strong gusty winds (hurricane force gusts or close to it, if I recall) where I lived on the Connecticut shore. Today (March 12) is the anniversary of the granddaddy of all snowstorms in our area – the Blizzard of 1888. This storm produced 50” of snow in Middletown, Connecticut and tremendous snow drifts. A high pressure area centered near Norfolk, Virginia this afternoon will continue to move out over the ocean.
