Hi, folks!
Herbs at 11am. Rocks at noon. Sewing workshop at 3pm.
It’s rather dim and gloomy again today, but I’m hoping for more light as the day goes on. After all, it was gloomier stumbling around in the bathroom at quarter to five….:-) I think I’ve been reading too much Doug Adams….
There was a crow out there a minute ago and a couple of house sparrows are arguing over who owns the feeder.
My red rose on the south side of the house is blooming! I picked two bowls full of petals yesterday. That was after I gathered several handfuls of comfrey. I’ve more to do on both today. I did manage to process the calendula from Thursday, too, after sorting out the comfrey. I’ve a whole basket and part of a bundle that I can add to what I grab this morning. The violets are dry and ready to pack. I’ll be packing more this morning and probably getting more of last season’s dried herbs down to “crunch”.
I spent some time yesterday packing rocks. Tempus got me the small bags that we use, so those are getting readied for sale.
…and then I spent time….lots of time… uploaded green screen photos, working on those, website updates and all that sort of thing.
Later in the day I spent a while trying to get some more stock pictures. I don’t really know why I was having trouble, but I couldn’t get decent pix because the camera wasn’t focusing right. Dunno why. I’m going to have to try again today. I’m hoping Tempus will give me a hand with getting the pictures that I couldn’t manage yesterday.
Workshops today.
The shop opens at 11am today. Spring hours, 11am-7pm, Thursday through Monday. If we’re supposed to be closed, but it looks like we’re there, try the door. If it’s open, the shop’s open!
Love & Light, Anja

Today The Moon is a waxing Crescent. Waxing Crescent phase - Keywords for the Crescent phase are: expansion, growth, struggle, opportunity. It is the time in a cycle that you gather the wisdom learned in the new phase and communicate your intention to move forward. Light a candle. Write or read an affirmation. LISTEN & ABSORB. Commit to your goal. Waxing Crescent Phase ends at the ¼ moon at 1:16pm on Monday. Waxing Moon Magick - The waxing moon is for constructive magick, such as love, wealth, success, courage, friendship, luck or healthy, protection, divination. Any working that needs extra power, such as help finding a new job or healings for serious conditions, can be done now. Also, love, knowledge, legal undertakings, money and dreams.
By late evening the summer constellation Scorpius is well up in the south-southeast, as shown at right. Look for its brightest star, fire-colored Antares, the Scorpion's heart. Antares' "outrigger" stars are just below it and to its upper right. Farther upper right is the diagonal three-star row of Scorpius's head, topped by Beta Scorpii. Venus (about magnitude –4.2 and fading) is now at the peak of its evening drama, dropping faster into the bright sunset every day. How many more days can you follow it with your naked eyes? With binoculars? Don't confuse it with Capella about 20° to its upper right. See the Sky & Telescope article, Venus Takes the Plunge. In a telescope Venus is a dramatically thin crescent, just 4% sunlit on May 25th and 3% on the 30th, and about 55 arcseconds tall. You may be able to see its crescent shape in binoculars. Venus is plunging toward inferior conjunction, when it will transit the face of the Sun on June 5–6 (on the afternoon of the 5th for North America). This will be the last Venus transit until 2117.

Celtic tree month Huath Hawthorn May 13 - Jun 9 - I am fair among flowers - Color: Purple - Class: Peasant - Letter: H - Meaning: Being held back for a period of time - Hawthorn - Like willows, hawthorns have many species in Europe, and they are not always easy to tell apart. All are thorny shrubs in the Rose family (Rosaceae), and most have whitish or pinkish flowers. The common hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna Jacq.) and midland hawthorn (Crataegus laevigata (Poiret) DC.) are both widespread. They are common in abandoned fields and along the edges of forests. Both are cultivated in North America, as are several native and Asiatic hawthorns. Curtis Clark

Songs My Mother Taught Me Today New Poems by Stephanie Pflumm . Even The City Dances The Trees in town are waking up. Robins from the far off North stop by for a bite and a drink. The kitten did not come home all night. Even in the city I see Mother's magical dance. The earth in my yard is warmer. Grandfather's sunny rays spill through my windows earlier. Colorful crocus peek through brown grass. Distant honking geese with their V pointed North. All along the concrete streets and Tree shaded sidewalks I hear the rhythms and watch as the Wheel dances Winter away into Spring. Is My Mother Angry? As I bask in the sunny warmth of this late Winter day I am wondering, is my Mother angry? In the last full turn of the Wheel I have seen earthquakes that shook our planet off Her path. Hurricanes rip apart more than one million lives. And a Winter that barely seemed to happen except in short violent bursts. And I wonder, have we finally gone too far? As we relax our disciplines to be greener citizens I wonder, have we finally spilled too much poison? Have we finally cheated too many relations of their rightful place in this planet's scheme? Has our greed and righteous self-determination taken its final toll? Is my Mother angry enough to turn Her back on me? Maybe She is just trying to shake me awake before it is just too late to take back the damage we have done. Before it is too late to save humans from extinction when Mother gets really angry. ©Copyright 2006, Stephanie Pflumm, All Rights Reserved Worldwide. Magick – Litha www.weavings.co.uk Merry Meet...... and welcome to the Litha issue of Cauldrons and Broomsticks: a magical newsletter. Litha for Kids
Litha is a time of magic and faeries. Also known as Midsummer, to many it seems strange to celebrate the halfway point when school vacations and warm weather have just begun! Today is the longest day of the year and the Sun is at the height of its power but it's a bittersweet joy as the days begin to shorten again, starting tomorrow. This is a great time of year to harvest herbs for all of your magical workings. It's also a good time to allow your child to begin his/her own witchy cupboard. When harvesting herbs, remember to leave about 1/3 of the plant behind to propagate itself. This ensures a continual harvest throughout the growing season. Also, thank the spirit of the plant for its sacrifice and leave a small offering. Taking a page from Native American custom, a bit of tobacco is a good thank-you to the spirits of your garden but you could also sprinkle a bit of dried herb from a previous harvest. Allow your child to help you bundle the herbs together and tie at the stems with twine or thread. Hang upside down in a cool, dark place until dry and then store them in pretty containers or even plastic baggies. Make sure all containers are labelled clearly as dried herbs tend to look a lot alike! I'll never forget the time when Scout's father, my ex-husband, was making chilli and reached into the spice cabinet for something. He proceeded to add a generous sprinkling of Scout's "dragon scales" (see Kiddy Craft section) to the pot because she had recycled my old herb jars! How he could have mistaken glittery pine cone shingles for cumin is beyond me but he did! We still laugh about that to this day but it wasn't very funny at the time. One of our favourite activities at Midsummer is building a faery shelter for the little sprites to party and rest. Scout hunts for sticks, which she pokes into the ground and then lays large leaves over the top to form the roof. She decorates with flowers, bird feathers and smaller leaves. We leave out milk mixed with honey and bread and butter, cut into small pieces. She's always very excited to find the containers emptied and the faery house turned upside down from their wild dancing. A friend of mine recently gave me a wonderful idea and that is to leave a small gift for your child as a thank-you from the faeries. You could leave shells from the sea, a small trinket that had been "lost" around the house (everyone knows they faeries love to play tricks!), a small bouquet of wild flowers, a pretty rock or anything you feel is worthwhile. The idea is to keep it natural and simple and then explain to your child why the faeries felt it was an appropriate gift. by Garnet WindDancer Weavings' Cauldrons & Broomsticks: a magical newsletter is an online email newsletter for the Pagan population at large. Silliness – GCF: First Day of Psychiatry Class Psychiatry students were in their Emotional Extremes class. "Let's set some parameters," the professor said. "What's the opposite of joy?" he asked one student. "Sadness," was the replied. "The opposite of depression?" he asked another student. "Elation," he replied. "The opposite of woe?" the professor asked a young woman from Texas. The Texan replied, "Sir, I believe that would be giddyup."
