It’s supposed to be cooler than yesterday, but it’s already 58 and yesterday never got above 64 down near the water. It’s pretty breezy, although it’s not gusting past 10mph.
I’m watching a sparrow pecking seed as monotonously as a mechanical bird. For aobuta minute there you could have used him for a metronome, then another sparrow flew in and they got to squabbling. I’ve seen five or six varieties of sparrows this morning.
Not a lot happened yesterday. We had customers. I worked on putting together an order for Shoyeido incense and a couple of other places. I pecked a little at working on herbs and sewing and jewelry and such, but I never really did settle to anything. As soon as I did, something would happen, the phone would ring or a customer come in or I needed more tea and then I was all over again.
The only thing I really accomplished was getting part of a schedule together for the psychic fair week. We’re setting up a children’s crafts class all during that week along with the 4 special guests. There will also be herb classes, so if you have requests, now’s the time to get ‘em in.
When we got home I spent a while working on trying to dig some of the pinks that have naturalized into the path. I want to re-plant them in the front yard and let them naturalize there instead of grass, but there’s so much gravel in that pathway that I’m having trouble with the digging. I got a few loose, but Tempus and I are going to go out there together, he to dig and me to get the grass out and get ‘em ready for replanting. We also need to pick the species rose petals from under the alder. There are a *lot* this year!
The clematis has draped a few long tendrils into the porch, but the most of the new growth is around the outside. I’ve got some that needs to be clipped off, since it’s dead, but it’s a very few branches. It’s really cool to look up into green leaves for a roof! Tempus did deal with the one section that was trying to lock us in. We have a few more of those to work on today.
I also need to get more seeds into the railing boxes and to find a dish to go under the one pot that keeps drying out. I don’t know how much I’ll actually be able to do in the garden today with the weather, but I hope I can get some weeding in.
It’s misting. It rained hard just as we were drifting off to sleep, but only for that little while. Occasionally the sun tried to break through, which it’s doing again, and it seems as though the world turns to a golden green.
Tempus has already done laundry and I have my apples to make either a pie or apple crisp, plus I was to make some piroshki.
…and the crows have found the bread and there was an evening grosbeak on the feeder, than a towhee, then a black-capped grosbeak. …Tempus says I should get them a napkins… gross beaks…
The shop is closed on Tuesdays. Summer hours, 10am-7pm, Wednesday through Monday. If we’re supposed to be closed, but it looks like we’re there, try the door. If it’s open, the shop’s open!

Mars (magnitude +0.6) shines orange near the hind foot of Leo, in the southwest at dusk and lower in the west as evening grows late. Mars is still less than halfway from Regulus (off to its lower right) to the Saturn-and-Spica pair (left). Mars will shoot the gap between Saturn and Spica in mid-August. In a telescope Mars is gibbous and tiny (about 7.3 arcseconds wide), continuing to fade and shrink.

Celtic tree month of Duir Oak - Jun 10 - Jul 7 - The oak of myth and legend is the common oak (Quercus robur L.). It is sometimes called the great oak, which is a translation of its Latin name (robur is the root of the English word "robust"). It grows with ash and beech in the lowland forests, and can reach a height of 150 feet and age of 800 years. Along with ashes, oaks were heavily logged throughout recent millennia, so that the remaining giant oaks in many parts of Europe are but a remnant of forests past. Like most other central and northern European trees, common oaks are deciduous, losing their leaves before Samhain and growing new leaves in the spring so that the trees are fully clothed by Bealltaine. Common oaks are occasionally cultivated in North America, as are the similar native white oak, valley oak, and Oregon oak. Oaks are members of the Beech family (Fagaceae). Curtis Clark

Antheia - Arretophoria (Greece) Today's Goddess:
Themes: Promises; Friendship; Trust; Honor; Community; Love; Relationships
Symbols: Gold-colored Items; Honey; Myrrh
About Antheia: Since 800 B.C.E. Antheia has been known as the Greek Goddess of marriage, companionship, and good council. These attributes manifested themselves in a triple Goddess figure who flowered, sought a mate, and reached perfection. Today we ask her to bless our rites by flowering within our souls so we too can obtain spiritual perfection.
To Do Today: In ancient Greece this festival of trust and friendship was held sometime between June and July. Each year, two maidens were given a special honey-laden diet and clothed in golden robes to take on a special trust. They delivered a package untouched to a secret place in a local temple, then spent the year in community service, never peeking inside the box. This sounds like a fun activity for couples or friends. Each person picks out a trust gift for the other and gives it to them to put in a special place, leaving it untouched for a year. The entire time the gift remains there unopened, Antheia will energize it and bless the people in that relationship, so don't get tempted to peek. Believe me when I say it's worth the wait. At the end of the year, don something gold, burn myrrh to create a sacred space in which Antheia dwells, and open the gifts, explaining the significance of the items. I guarantee it's a present you'll never forget.

Silliness - GCF: Fancy Restaurant
We were eating at one of the trendier restaurants in town when my friend pointed to the menu and told the waitress, "I'll have the 24."
"Uh, Jim," I whispered, "that's the price, not the meal number."
"Oh," he said. "In that case give me the 12."
