12/27 -
Officially we had over 13 inches at the airport - some areas of course, got a bit more! 12/26 - 6 inches and counting - snow is getting larger, faster, and it's awfully windy so we may lose power off and on. Internet is spotty. Most of you who visit here also pop into Proserpina's blog, so I will post there as I get the chance. 12/20 Well, the L&M must have changed the time instead of the alarm last night. Beep, Beep, Beep - he looks at the alarm and flies out of bed. 0530 - I'm late!!! 15 minutes later it goes off again so I get up - thinking I just have time for coffee before waking EllieRose at 6. Ha - Once in the kitchen I glance at the clock on the stove. Grrrrr - it's 0345, not 0545! So here I sit - hopping through blogs and planning my chores for the day. Unfortunately I can't get started on most of them until after I get Ellie off to school - it's just not nice to run the vacuum or start washing blankets while they are still asleep. :) I did fix the alarm clock, however. 12/17 Well - we managed to have 300 accidents reported to the police in Hampton Roads/Eastern Shore yesterday. The Holiday Party was cancelled because our venue shut down for the 'storm'. Hmmm - I sure hope the caterers did something sensible with all that food. School is delayed 2 hours this morning to allow the icy roads to melt a bit. Weekend is looking good with time for errands Saturday morning before the next round of (possible) snow hits us Saturday night. 12/16/2010 Schools are closed today over a pretty broad swath of Southern Virginia. Even Virginia Beach - where we'll probably get an inch and a half or so has closed the schools in advance of the 'storm'. Worst case scenario will be the possibility for some sleet/freezing rain on top of the snow - just in time for rush hour traffic and our drive to the Holiday Party venue. ********** Tomorrow night is the command's Holiday Party - just in time for the storm!! Winter Weather Advisory Statement as of 3:11 PM EST on December 15, 2010 ... Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 7 am to 7 PM EST Thursday... The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for snow... which is in effect from 7 am to 7 PM EST Thursday. * Accumulation... 1 to 3 inches of snow. * Ice amounts... a trace to one tenth of an inch of ice is possible... mainly Thursday afternoon or evening. * Timing: Thursday morning through Thursday evening. * Impacts: hazardous travel conditions. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow... sleet... or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while driving. *************** Making cookies this week. Started with the easy macaroons, now I'm mixing dough for the cookie press, and tomorrow my neighbor and I are going to work on traditional rolled cookies with confectioner's icing. If anyone has a great thin icing (like the old 'royal' icing) recipe, send it on. Looking for one that is glossy, doesn't fade and dries hard! Let's see - what else is in the mix(ing bowl)? Oh, yummy old fashioned molasses cookies, and pecan curls and if I have time maybe even some pfefferneuse after all! And divinity - I need to make divinity and fudge - but that's for next week! I could use a good bourbon ball recipe, too - I can't find my old one anywhere.
