With the work schedule change we got up early to go to the local farmers market.
It opens at 8am and they were already out of eggs when we got there at 8:45.

Hi Lowercal, I've heard that ZoneAlarm is good. My current anti-virus program Symantec is supposed to have a firewall with it. Wonder if we can have more than one firewall without gunking everything up? How's that for a precisely phrased technical question lol.

Hi Sandi, Maybe I'm a cold war throw back, but Kaspersky being from out of Russia just makes me suspicious. I have heard that it's a good product though.
LOL on new camera. Glad you did the experiment of getting the fancy camera. I've been getting the bug again. Having you stay with point-n-shoots makes me get over wanting all the gear. Plus, all the shots you have been posting with the other Panasonic make it clear that point-n-shoots used right make great pictures.

Hi Ylee, Comic Con is one of those things I'll go to win I come into lot's of money. It sounds soooo fun. We are lucky to have a couple Sci-Fi events here. To keep my geek girl cred going though, I may be planning a trip to Florida to see the Harry Potter fun park, and of course my family.

Hi Calpoppy, we have been having lot's of fronts etc come through (no rain though) so it has finally dropped the temps to something nice. Yes I still want a fancy camera with a zoom equivalent to what I have that shoots faster...Oh to get clear pics of birds taking flight. I bought a light weight tripod with the ball head. Unfortunately it tends to droop when I put the big teleconverter lens on my camera. Otherwise, it rocks for regular camera use.

Hi Rob, no problem. I haven't done all the blog catch up I'd like to either. Enjoyed the parts of Boldly Go that I read. You guys are really funny. Kind of like if Garrison Keilor took his stories Sci Fi.

Good Morning All,
Today is doctor day to find out the results of last weeks PET scan and blood tests. Rather nerve wracking and expensive to be getting these tests. I could buy two of Sandi's new camera for the out-of-pocket for a PET.

Really need a new hobby besides doctor visits. Would rather have a couple of pinball machines and great photo gear ;) So this morning I'm putting on my warpaint. Have done a manicure and pedicure in bright colors. Will wear my new hippie girl dress; subtle black and tan tie dye with a wide beaded blue belt. Am bringing the brushed felt purse a friend gave me for Christmas that I mistook for a skie hat while I was bald and stoned on painkillers during chemo. Wish me luck.

PET Scan shows nothing now. The CA-125 test is still a bit elevated but the doctor says some people just stay elevated and he won't start me on chemo if he can't find anything to treat. So let's call this remission. Totally cried when I got the news. Guess out of relief and just needed to get all that worry out. Now I can plan for my 50th birthday. Am going to go visit my Mom and sister in Florida, then go see Harry Potter World at Universal Studios.

Hi Sandi, thanks. If that doctor quits ordering PET scans for me I just may get a camera like yours in another year or two. Figure by then my Fuji will have been dropped and hard used enough that a new one would make sense. The UV lense protector already has a nick in it from dropping the camera off the tripod while rushing trying to find the Other lever in the dark.

Hi Prose, I think the good vibes are working. The heat thing. Thought you all were done with all that hot and humid foolishness. We may need to complain to the Managment....although right now I'm doing lot's of thank you's. Even bought a potted plant for the Madonna in my front yard on the way home.

Hi Briarcraft, yeah when it's windy tripods really are not too useful. I suppose a real heavy one with a sand bag dangling from the center would work but I'm not that devoted. I have used the spouse as a tripod once or twice. Guess it must be common.lol!

Hi LC, that is some good info from that link. The whole protecting the browser and blocking tracker cookies etc. really is an important issue. Not just against the "bad guys" but also the "grey guys" that track our consumer habits. Remember the time I did a blog where I asked people to use the word Leper or leprosy as often as possible? That seemed to confuse the google adsense generator. Hardly got any adds. Bet I would get more specific adds if I did a "Zombie" blog. Hmmmmm.

I'm still tickled to know I can plan ahead now. We decided to pay off the house...at the interest rate they charge for mobile homes it is well worth it. Now we are putting the house payments into savings minus what it's going to cost to have a smart phone.
We figure it makes more sense than dragging a laptop with us when we travel.
(Oh, and my main reason besides Google maps and compass...Audubon has an ap for birds that not only plays their calls but can recognize calls. How cool is that!)

Hi Sandi, it was a wonderful dinner at a restaurant called The Outback Steak House. Had the filet and small lobster tail. (Have never splurged like that before) and then split a chocolate dessert.

Hi Janetlee, yes indeed the five year is really something. Hope you went and had an over-the-top celebration. You have no idea how happy I was for you when you posted your anniversary.

Hi Calpoppy, It is going to be so much fun to go to Florida and see the family. There is a huge irony that these days it is cheaper to fly...although am still tempted to drive because it is such a fun adventure stopping to see all the historical stuff.

Hi LowerCal, thanks. With the smart phone I am sort of getting a new camera. Don't know which one yet but am leaning towards a plan with T-Mobile. They have the HTC Thunderbolt and the Samsung GalaxyII&III.

Hi Shore,Thanks for all your support. It really is a huge relief. Went more or less running out of the doctors office and forgot to make an appointment in three month. Guess I'll have to do that Monday. Glad you are getting nice sunsets and bird TV. It's these little things that matter so much. I've taken to going into the control panel and deleting all the cookies etc to keep "them" from hitchhiking on my computer.

Hi Ylee, they would have to be plenty tall candles to get around to lighting all 50. I think you are right about fifty being the new 30. I still wear tie-dye and the occaisional skull&crossbones t-shirt. As long as the spirit is willing...one should dance.

Hi BriarCraft, that is a beautiful poem. Some words ring so true. I thank you for your support and kindness through this trial. The whole 50 thing really is a milestone but I'm actually kind of jazzed to be hitting that number. We live a long time in our family so there are atleast 30 some good years left. Will also be celebrating a 15 year anniversary in August. We just call August the anniversary because neither is good at remembering dates lol.

Hi Calpoppy, I just got the GalaxyIII. Have no idea how to work it, but will figure it out over time. T-Mobile had the best rates here and had it on sale; buy one get a second of lesser value "free". At COSTCO the phone was half of what the T-Mobile store was selling it for. So we each got smart phones Galaxy II & III. Ironically, having two smart phones w/data was only $20 more than keeping the old cell and adding a smartphone package.
When I figure out what it does I'll let you know ;)

Hi Karen, The good news is by your pics you don't look 60, so I guess if according to Ylee that 50 is the new 30, then you are only going to be 40. Wooo-hooo we are young again!

Ylee, Eureka! We now know why time goes faster when we get older; For every reaction there is an equal and opposite reaction. As our bodies age less, time moves quicker. It's connected to that "Higgs is making my bottom fatter particle" ;D

Hi Sp, Yes there is some happy dancin going on here. Funny about the smart phones, I'm maybe the only one at work that didn't have one. Now that I have one am busy trying to think up all the ways it might actually be useful. One thing I want to learn is how to get rid of all the pre-loaded spam widgets/aps without crashing it's OS.
It has a flashlight widget. I like that :)

Hi Patti, that is the one true joy off digital cameras is that I can take dozens of pictures without regard to paying for processing. I would never have tried shooting those with film. Hooray for digital. Glad you are spending time with your Mom. They are so important in our lives yet it's easy to take them for granted.

Hi Sandi, Mine is the Samsung knock-off of the iPhone. It has the voice activated lady to find restaurants and such. She is not as fun as Siri though. The flashlight feature really is great. There is also an app to make the screen a strobe light but I haven't tried it yet.

Hi Briar, like all new things I'm totally obsessing on it and trying to learn everything about smart phones, apps etc. That's good though, immersion learning keeps me out of mischief. One down side to the GalaxysIII is a really short battery life. I don't know how other phones compare in use-ability so I don't know if the short battery life is an okay trade-off.
