Voice to Text--- .Looking down into the Sea this morning it looks like we have had another 24 hours of cloudless skies over the Sea of Cortez. Looking south to the Mexican Riviera I can see that the area from around Manzanillo south to Acapulco continues to see scattered bands of clouds pass over the region. That will continue today. The genesis of these clouds is that area of very heavy convection that has been off the mainland coast for almost a week. Yesterday just as I was finishing the weather the National Hurricane Center announced that a tropical depression formed about 700 miles SW of Manzanillo. Around 8:30 last night it became the first named storm of 2012, Aletta. It’s not much of a storm with only 35 knot winds right now and they are forecast to increase to around 45 knots before dissipating late tomorrow and becoming depressed again and head out toward Hawaii. Following the weather yesterday I went searching for anyone who was posting their forecast for the Eastern Pacific basin hurricane season. Most I’ve found will wait until June. I found only one guy in Texas that goes by the handle of HurricaneDean07. I have no idea what his credentials are but here is his forecast for the Eastern Pacific basin. “The 2012 Eastern Pacific Hurricane Season should be more active than the two previous. Unlike the Atlantic, the Basin is amped up when El Nino conditions come into play. This season should be about average in most cases, and there shouldn't be anything truly special about it.(The Eastern Pacific seasonal averages are 16-9-4). My numbers for this EPAC season are...15 Named Storms, 9 Hurricanes and 5 Major Hurricanes” OK that’s it for the first seasonal forecast. Looking now at the Gulf of Tehuantepec where winds continue to whistle through the Chivela pass and through the Gulf of Tehuantepec this morning. They should diminish to less than 20 by this evening. That’s about it for our hood, just a little early season tropical activity, so looking now north to the west coast of America where it continues to be very pleasant along the west coast with Ballpark 70s along the coast and 80s inland. Coastal fog hugs the coast from San Francisco bay south to just short of Turtle Bay this morning. For southern California seasonal fair weather will continue all week. A low system on Thursday and Friday will be moving through the area increasing the winds in the mountains and deserts. Looking now over to the southwest where low humidity and high temperatures will continue all week. Later in the week a low will move through the region dipping temperatures a bit. As high pressure fills in the wake the temperatures will sour again this weekend. That’s what’s going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like today and tomorrow the northern Sea will see moderate southerlies then pick up on Thursday. The southern Sea should see moderate E or SE today and tomorrow picking up on Thursday. The southern Sea will see light to moderate southerlies over the 3-day forecast period. Temperature-wise many locations will see the century mark today in the central Sea and southern Sea. The Marina de La Paz reported 91 degrees yesterday and the airport 105. I’m inclined to go with the Marina.
73s Y’all
