Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the Sea has had another 24 hours of clear skies.
That being said I used the old weatherman standby and looked out
my window. It was hazy and there were lazy puffy fluffys all over the place.
So much for the gazillion dollar satellite image.
Looking over to the west coast of the Baja Peninsula and again using the NOOA satellite it looks like a fairly heavy fog bank hugs the coast from a bit south of Turtle Bay, in the Laguna area, all the way north to the Canadian border this morning.’
Interesting, I look at a couple of web cams in La Paz, Cabo, and the west cape every morning and I very seldom see fog. They say I’m looking at real-time images. One of La Paz weather blogs reports fog most mornings there. I need some local information on summer fog from La Paz south to the cape. Any volunteers jump in after the summary.
Looking south to the cape area it looks like there has been some remnant clouds from thunderbumpers move across the Sea from the Los Mochas area into the southern crossing during the night. They appear to be dissipating at 5am.
Looking now further south: the ITCZ/Monsoon trough which normally snakes along between 8-10 N takes a jog due north around panama and hugs the coast all the way north to around 20N (that’s around Cabo Corrienties) before turning west again and dips back down to 10N way out around 140W. Very unusual!
From around Cabo Corrienties SW to 140W where the monsoon trough again continues along 10N it is solid thunderbumpers.
Within this area is a broad area of low pressure that is about 270 miles west-southwest of Manzanillo. This system is moving slowly eastward toward the coast and will contribute to the heavy rains that are still around from sister Carlotta along the coast and in southwestern and south-central Mexico. Again mudslides and flash flooding are a major concern for the region.
According to the National Hurricane Center there is about a 30% chance that this system will develop into our next tropical storm in the next 48 hours.
Looking at the big picture it looks like some of the clouds from this system could drift NE and pass over the cape regions today. We’ll see?
So it looks like we will be keeping this system on the back burner of our Tropical Kitchen for a while.
That’s what’s going on in our hood so looking now north to the west coast of America where at the top of this image the Great Northwest will continue to see weak systems move though the region all week bringing mostly light rain.
From southern Washington, Oregon and all of California next week looks like a bit of fog along the coast and abundant sunshine inland.
The weather pattern for the coast this week is for weak lows to move in from the Pacific and dent the high causing a brief cooling then heat up again as the high rebounds. So one day a little cooler than the next and the nest a little hotter all week long.
In general the temperatures in southern California will be in the mid 70s all week.
Looking now over to the southwest where it continues to be hot. Tucson will hit 107 today and Yuma under the influence of a thermal low over Needles will be around 115 this afternoon.
Local forecasters are still mentioning the chance of showers and or thunderbumpers south and east of Tucson. I’m thinking this is probably CYA stuff as the water vapor imagery is showing very little moisture in the region. Perhaps tomorrow they could see some moisture slip south from weak low moving through the Great Basin. We’ll see?
That is what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence the northern Sea will see moderate NE winds today.
The central Sea from San Franciscito bay to Concepcion Bay will see moderate NW winds this afternoon. A bit stronger along the Sonoran coast.
The southern Sea mostly light to moderate SW winds today. Puerto Escondido sort of on the cusp should see moderate NE this afternoon.
So it looks like two more days of moderate northerlies then Wednesday the winds swing back to the south. June is normally a “tweener” month with a few days of northerlies and a few days of southerlies waiting for Death Valley to heat up and give us that strong thermal low over the Yuma region that gives us our summer southerlies.
Temperatures should be a couple of degree higher today with several locations hitting the century mark. Most will be in the mid to high 90s.
