Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that, as advertized, a moisture plume descended from southern California down the Baja peninsula yesterday bringing mostly high whispys to as far as the central Sea. This morning the remnants of that plume are still passing over the central Sea, but not much is left of it and it looks like by late morning it will have dissipated and clear skies are on tap for this afternoon for the entire Baja peninsula. Looking south along the west coast of Mexico the skies are clear to just south of Zihuatanejo. From there south into Central America moisture from along the ITCZ/Monsoon trough is drifting east and that entire area is overcast this morning. This Tehuantepec remains quiet this morning, however the winds are expected to pick up tomorrow into the weekend to the 15-25 knot ranges. Looking now into our tropical kitchen. A low has formed around 650 miles SW of Acapulco overnight. It has a pretty low chance of developing into anything tropical though. That tropical wave we have been watching for the past several days cross the Atlantic is now forecast to move across Costa Rica this evening. It is expected that it will spawn a weak low near 87W by early tomorrow morning. The models are a little iffy as what and when any development will happen next. The best scenario looks like there will be some development over the weekend with the possibility of a tropical storm developing on Sunday. Well see? There is another Tropical Wave passing through Panama this morning that does not looks like anything will develop from this though. That’s what is happening in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where I can see that big honk’n cold low swirling off the Washington/Oregon coast this morning. It looks like it will rain on any Memorial Day picnics in the Great Northwest. The higher elevations in the Cascades will be getting a light dusting of new snow today. This system should move off to the east on Saturday with another low expected to arrive on the west coast on Monday. That system is forecast to bring rain to northern California by Monday morning. In southern California low pressure is forecast to remain in place through early next week resulting in below average temperatures in the southland through the holiday weekend. Southern California will have May Grey along the coast and gusterly conditions in the mountains and deserts throughout the weekend. Looking now over to the southwest where low pressure off the west coast is expected to keep the region dry with breezy to windy conditions for the rest of the week and into early next week. Temperature will cool a bit but remain near seasonal norms. That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the fence it looks like the Sea of Cortez will continue to see moderate southerlies for the 3-day forecast period. Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period. The northern Sea: mid teens today low teens Friday and Saturday. The central Sea: mid teens for the next 3 days. The southern Sea: mostly light SW winds for the 3-day forecast period. The East Cape: moderate ENE today, light SW tomorrow and then light ENE again on Saturday. The Sonoran passage: mostly moderate SW for the 3-day forecast period. The Mexican Riviera: They too will see moderate SW winds for the next 3 days. Temperatures in the Sea continue to inch up daily. Today will see the high 80s to the low 90s
