August 2012 climate statistics
Near normal temperatures and below normal precipitation characterized Kansas City weather in August. The average temperature at the Kansas City International Airport was 76.9 degrees, which was 0.2 degrees below normal. The average high temperature was 90.1 degrees, or 2.7 degrees above normal. The average low temperature was 63.7 degrees which was 3.1 degrees below normal. The highest temperature for the month was 103 degrees on the 7th. The lowest temperature was 53 degrees on the 17th and 20th. The low of 53 degrees on the 17th, broke the record low for the date. Precipitation came in at 2.03 inches for the month, or 1.86 inches below normal. The greatest total in a 24 hour period was 0.89 inches on the 31th through 31th. This was the 27th driest August on record.
