	In memory of Prince

Well,it was not the kind of vacation I would hope for,weather was inconsistent at best and never got to the beach,lots of work getting our room put back together,but all that is unimportant due to the fact we had to put our beloved Prince to sleep on Friday night.
As most who have followed his story with his Congestive heart failure that was diagnosed at the end of the winter,he has been in and out of the hostipital,and over the pas month the emergency trips have been more frequent with his difficulty breathing when his lungs fill up with fluid.They have heart medicine which can remove the fluid from the lungs,unfortunately the medicine he needed at sufficient levels to keep the fluid out of his lungs also put his kidneys in failure.So he had two problems working against each other.We thought he was stable last week,but on Friday night he had difficulty breathing and it got worse as the evening progressed eventhough we gave him extra heart medicine.Finally about 11 pm,we both agreed we couldn't continue to make him suffer. We decided to have him put to sleep.It was the longest ride of my life.
I have to hand it to the hospital they made it so comforting.They put us in a comfortable private room,we sat on a sofa with Prince and they took him out and gave him a sedative and put in an IV,brought him back and let us stay with him for a while and when we were ready,she simply came in and put the overdose of anesthestia and he quietly went to sleep.It was so nice.
Needless to say we did not have a good weekend with sleep a tough thing to do.Even now,we see things that remind us,coming home to a quiet house is depressing,and this morning its bad enough going back to work after 10 days off,but my routine over the past almost 11 years is changed.Any one who has lost a pet knows what its like.
In the end it was the right move,but my wife and I will miss him terribly.I still hear him every once and a while walking across the floor.

Oh NEw. I am so very, very sad and sorry for your loss. What a good, good doggie Prince was, and what a wonderful family you gave him for all those years. I vividly remember the two times we have had to put down our cats. They are so trusting in their illness, and you just have to continue their trust in you by knowing when it is time to ease their way. Just as you did, each time we knew that time had come. I am so glad the vets at your hospital were so kind and caring. We had a vet come to our house both times, and they were so helpful. Yes, the house seems so empty and strange without Prince. You keep thinking you see or hear him, and all of his things are around, and all of his little habits come to mind at every moment. I know he was a great comfort to Mrs. NEw when she especially needed it, and that he was your good companion on "walkies" every day. I'm just so sorry for your loss. Thank you,Looking,I truly believe he was sent to us to help my wife through her ordeals with the 3 cancer episodes,he was by her side throughout her battle. I dread going home after work today,knowing there will be no greeting as I come through the door,but we both will get through this tough time.I have never had a dog like him,as far as companionship and love and loyalty. Oh NEw, I am just now seeing this. I am sorry I was not around sooner. You have told us about Prince's health problems and all you were doing to try and get him better. Yes, sounds like he went like Harley, in our arms in a peaceful painless sleep. And it is so sad and you will be sad for a long time. We still miss Harley so much. Just this morning Nolan ask me Where is Harley? While in Wellesley grandson Baron asked about Harley all the time. We still expect him to meet us at the door when we come home... Oh NEw, so sorry to hear this. My heart is aching for you and your wife, and it will take time. Yes, your life is changed and you were blessed to have Prince through all those good years. Prince is playing with all of our furry friends up there. Try to have a good day although it is hard. But, better working and keeping busy. You're in our thoughts along with Prince. This weekend was so bad,we just kept trying to get out of the house,we couldn't be there,but then coming home was so hard,opening that door and him not being there and jumping up and down and giving us a little howl.All that is going to take time. {{NEwxguy}}~ I lost my Kaluhua cat to heart failure from the China ingredient in Cat food five years ago. It's a hard way to watch them go. I'm really sorry for you. Hope you find peace. Prince looks like the kind of dog that would want you to be happy. I usually give my self a month & then go to the shelter unless one has already found it's way to me. Skye, thank you,all us pet owners know what it feels like.Cats and dogs especially.I enjoy both,but cats a different,they show their live,but on their conditions,they let you know when they want to be held and when they want to be left alone. We also have a cat,and he is even missing Prince,the last couple of days,he is out on the deck and he will sit there or walk around meowing. They were very close and would play often. I've really been taken aback at how much this has effected me.Dogs love unconditionally and Prince was by our side always,he did not want to be any where else but by one of us especially my wife.He would follow her from one room to the other and never rest until she sat down.And when we left the house who would look at us like "why are you leaving without me?"And whether it was for 5 minutes or all day,he would greet us with a howl and go crazy.So this is going to be a long slow recovery,as far as another dog,way too early to think about that.After this experience,not sure I want to go through that again. Speaking of cats,We do have a cat and as I said,he definitely is missing Prince,but one of the few laughs I've had this weekend. As most of you know we have been doing our family room over from top to bottom and it is nearly complete. On Thursday we had a new rug put in and it is more plush than our previous rug.The cat does not like it. He does not want to walk across it,but in order to go outside he has to walk across it and he looks like he is walking acrosse glass or a bed of hot coals,and he actually walks across any furniture such as the base of a chair or lamp so that he doesn't have to touch the rug,I'd love to send it into funniest home videos.. Oh NEW, so sorry you had to relinquish your beloved pet PRINCE into God's hands. Yes its always hard to lose a pet, I have had it happen to me in the past 5 yrs too, first with Bugsy then with Molly. It takes a while to get over their passing, sometimes I swear they come and pay a visit when I feel as if there is something laying beside me in bed or at my feet. It's comforting to know you were able to make their lives better by having them part of your family. Thinking of you and your dear wife. Time will heal the heavy heart. Thank you Alley,yes,time will heal.And I agree with you,I think they do come and visit.I'm not a person who believes in ghosts,but at times when I've been alone,I hear the sound of his claws across our kitchen floor,its very eerie.So you might be right,they do come and visit,just to let us know they are not far away. So on other subjects. 1. Olympics I watch them,like the competition in swimming,and gymnastics,and some of the diving,but other sports I get bored.Cycling is not a TV sport,diving gets very repetitive.So can't watch it all night. 2. The weather.The pattern is stuck.Trough in the Southwest,large high baking the souther plains and MS valley,and an east coast trough.The plains are baking,monsoonal flooding for the desear southwest an rollercoaster weather for us in the northeast as waves of low pressure dive down from Canada with cool unsettled periods,then warm humid weather folloed by another front.This pattern looks to last for a while. 3. 99L out in the central Atlantic,could become a named stormed,but doesn't look like much of a future,and certainly doesn't look like a threat to any US coast line. 3. Football training camp opened last week,with high expectations,while the Redsox continue to flounder,although coming off some impressive victories over the Yankess this weekend. Hi again, NEw ~ Thanks for your kind words and thoughts on my blogsite as well. Currently, hubby and I are feeling more upbeat about his present neuro-status now that we've ruled out much through various tests. I can always help him with his speech problems, etc. as long as we continue to prevent those familial stressful elements (unrelated to his 90 yr old aged parents) from reoccurring, interfering and totally disrupting our and other lives. 'Nuff said about that. Glad to hear your sense of humor remains in tact regarding your posted accounting of your cat versus the new living-room rug. LOL! It helps to find both humor in other topics as well as in keeping busy while the the loss is still raw. As far as the summer Olympics are concerned, I've sadly lost interest in these more current athletes competing in gymnastics, swimming and volleyball. For some reason, I always gravitated towards the Winter Olympics which held the more relatable sports of skating and skiing. Plus, now-a-days, the site of these very young athletes makes me feel like an aged decrepit grandma. I can no longer relate to their athletic vim, vigor or prowess. LOL! Ouch! Thankfully, our recent weather has been quite bearable when in comparison to those, such as in Little Rock, AR, who are experiencing weeks of 106F degree highs. God love them! For now, I'm just going to embrace this beautiful day of sunny, warm dry weather and enjoy the latter half's forecast for rain to help our green to increasing brownish lawns. It's incredible how many states in our Nation remain so badly drought-ridden this year. Hold on to your hats and wallets when eyeing the rising prices in grocery stores in the weeks/months down the road! YIKES!! Hope this years PAT's season holds more enthusiastic interest and wins than last year. I feel like the Red Sox front office outwardly sabbotaged its players and fans this year. ARGH! Mass,I think we have this discussion before as we both have tired of sports and its greed and lack of having fun with sports.Even in the olympics,it really doesn't look like they have fun any more,its so stressful to outdo the other country,and fourth place is an utter failure. So sorry NEw!! What a beautiful dog he was, and with such a big heart. With my nine dogs that I had all at the same time, there were a couple that just stole my heart. Our american girl gymnasts are amazing!!!! Unfortunately for me they put gymnastics on to late at night for this gal to watch without being comatose at work!! Take care!!!!!! Cal, 9 dogs,Im sure never a dull moment around your house,lol.He really stole our hearts,never had a dog that provided so much love and attention and was always there at your side. I took a walk last night to start getting excercise since I had stopped walking when he wasn't able to,and as Im walking I could almost seeing him walking just ahead of me.
