I wish my glasses were fine enough that I could see the title of the latest book you are reading. Surely the mystery will unfold in tantalizing measures.

Oooh! Mom will be sooo thrilled! We received the package and will be posting a nice photo of some pancakes with the Vermont Maple syrup when my sister comes into town and the book is lovely. Pics soon! Thank you bug! And looking forward to the new adventures. You are a busy, busy gal!

The book Other Bug is reading is Water for Elephants....read that a few years ago.

I think my daughter would like that pink blanket she's stretched out on....looks cozy comfortable!

Bug.....you are under those Jacksonville palm trees. I would recognize them anywhere. Hope you are enjoying our horrendous heat. Be sure to smear on the sunscreen. I guess since you are laminated a little rain won't cause you to shrink. Just have lots of fun and don't get in the Atlantic (rip tide warnings are out)

That could be SE Florida... or some place that looks exactly like it, lol. Oh OtherBug how envious I am of all your travels. You're such a great houseguest that it's no wonder you have plenty of friends to visit and now you're staying with friends of friends. How great is that? I'm headed out on a roadtrip myself on Friday, perhaps our paths will cross?

Other, stay in FL, just keep inside out of the wind and rain and you'll be OK. A little tropical store is nuttin to worry about.

OtherBug ~ I don't know. If you hadn't already admitted to South Florida, I might have given South Texas a thought. The palms, the hibiscus, the furniture style - and those jalousies aren't unknown, especially in the Rockport area where there are a whole lot of folks who wish they were in Florida and try and live Florida style! LOL

Wherever you are, it looks wonderful.And if you could survive the swamps, you can survive whatever comes your way there!

Motel, not hotel, not resort. But a wonderful spot to relax!

... answers my "Sunset" question but now I don't know what to make of the "PARADISE" and "ROCKS" hints if that's what they were.

With the Sunset Paradise Condo's and Indian Rocks ruled out I'm now considering somewhere near the Seminole Paradise Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in SE Florida (Hollywood). Seminole Indian is really OLD Florida, lol. (I drove past that "Res" on my way to and from high school one year.) Of course it's right along U.S. Route 441 where you can still find what is commonly referred to as "Old Florida".

However the area I was first considering is near U.S. Route 41 which is also "Old Florida". The area I first considered is the near the old winter home of circuses and carnival people. As a matter of fact OtherBug, this person could have been the inspiration for one of the characters in the "Water for Elephants" novel you're reading:
Gibsonton, Florida - "Human Blockhead," Gibsonton's last legendary freak, dies
Melvin Burkhart, a circus performer and magician who could hammer nails into his nostrils, died of a stroke on November 8th. Burkhart, 94, was the last of the group that had chosen Gibsonton, FL (AKA "Gibtown") as their circus freak wintering town....

I find two motels (yep, motoring hotels) right alongside U.S. 41 in Gibsonton, the East Bay Motel and the Gibsonton Motel. They are both near the water for snorkeling and fishing and they are both walking distance from bait and tackle stores too. It will take another hint or someone sharper than me to guess the one you're in. BTW have you visited the post office yet?

I agree with oneshotww. Stick around and hunker down for Bonnie and say hi to surfmom for me while you're in the area. :^)

Oh I see now... you didn't stay put. You made a Keys run. Did you visit Paradise Key on the way there?

OtherBug, Paradise Key is hardwood hammock just inside Everglades National Park. You probably passed less than 10 miles from it on the way down. Last time I was down that way there were still a few "Old Florida" restaurants. Hope you found one of those to your liking. :^)

On the block I grew up on at least one house had at least one of those features and most had more than one. What a time warp!

I've only been to FL once, to Ft. Lauderdale, for a McCartney concert with a group of friends. Didn't see much of anything except the airport, the hotel, a couple of restuarants, the tollway and the stadium. We were only there for a weekend.

I'd love to see any of the 'Old FL' that's left. I can see hotels and condos here. LOL

Oh, and the fishin' looks great!

So I'm confused....where exactly was OtherBug? Since I don't know Florida landscapes or locals any better than I know New York City, I was left out in the dust.....again!

Karen, I'm not quite sure exactly where Other Me is, so you're not alone. Kind of off the beaten path in FL, for sure. Have no idea who my traveling companion is, either.

I'm not in on these travel planning sessions, so I'm as surprised (and mystified) as everyone else!

Apparently our girl got a taste for the open road - but nope, she's not with me.

I'll say this. From the looks of that fishin' hole, the only thing she was catching was sand trout.

I like the iguana, myself. If he was mine, I might name him Iggy Pop...

Oh, my gosh - Marathon! I did my first diving out of there, and spent a little time at Boot Key Harbor. Ms. OtherBug is a very, very lucky lady - wish I was there!

I knew when I saw that "teaser" photo earlier it was Florida...

and I love "old Florida" and the Keys.. been up and down that Hwy One many times and I get excited every trip.

Now to figure out who you are with that lives in Florida and takes weekend trips into Keys.

My first home down here in 1979 was built in late 50's early 60's home without heat or A/C and terrazio floors...and those Jalousie windows which most had to be replaced...

and the kitchen was the size of a small closet!

But it had a real Florida Room built on the back.

Ok, I know, it has got to be Spathy and Jamie...

just makes sense...the fishing (they are great at fishing) and they know the Keys very well...

that pic of the feast of Lobster Reuben and Blackend Hog Fish..is making me so hungry...

some of those places in the Keys have the best eating!

I know now who your "hostess" is... someone who just returned from a week's vacation in the Keys.

I figured she was with Oshnblu right away....but I had no idea WHERE she was, because apparently they went on a road trip...then I was lost!

but It has got to be Blu....she just got back from the Keys and this is the stuff Blu and BF would do in the Keys, fishing, sunset watching, quaint old Florida places..eating seafood....
