You can watch your contributions at work here http://www.stormjunkie.com/live.php Wednesday and Thursday evening as we feed several hundred residents of Pearlington MS and deliver much requested bug spray there. We will begin feeding folks at the Pearlington Community Center about 4pm CDT
You can read more about Pearlington here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pearlington,_Mississ ippi
It is a frequently unserved, under served and forgotten place.
Your continued support is what makes this possible. Together we are having a great positive impact on the Gulf coast survivors of hurricane Isaac.
------------------------------------------------- ---
Thanks to your support, our teams have been busy along the Gulf coast meeting the needs of the unserved, under served and forgotten in the wake of Hurricane Isaac.
One crew has worked the last two days in and around Braithwaite LA...a town virtually destroyed by storm surge. Our team has helped with debris removal, as well as facilitating feeding of residents there. There is much to be done in this area...and we are committed to maintaining a presence for some time.
In New Orleans Saturday, we fed about 100 people ( in a neighborhood without power since the storm) a good nutritious meal...and left enough food to feed many people for several days.
We are working with Friends of Disabled Adults and Children in Atlanta to deliver a truckload of supplies to Life of Mississipi CIL (a disability resource and advocacy group). At their specific request we will be sending manual wheelchairs, power chair batteries, blue pads, adult diapers, bug spray and baby wipes for distribution to people with disabilities along the Mississippi coast.
We are also deploying to Pearlington MS to provide a variety of aid to that community. This is an isolated, forgotten community which got a raw deal after Katrina...and has seen absolutely no help since Isaac. Here's a great article telling some history of this place, the beatings it has taken...and the shoddy treatment its' residents have received Link

Our team is deployed at the biggest shelter in the Biloxi area. 339 evacuees. Our team is the only trained medical presence there. Evacuees include several pregnant women, a few folks with minor injuries...as well as chronic issues such as diabetes. One evacuee left their medication at home in the chaos of evacuation....so our team went out in the storm to fetch it for them.
They report flooding is beginning to be a big issue...and they are prepared to engage in rescues as necessary.
When the weather passes, we will begin to do needs assessment, after which we will execute the relief phase of our deployment.
Live streaming video of one of our teams can be seen at www.stormjunkie.com

Our teams are now deployed in Biloxi, MS. We are working with Life, Inc. (a disability resource and advocacy center)to assist in serving the needs of people with disabilities in the area. Our work includes facilitating evacuations, securing property and surveying area shelters to ensure thay are accessible to people with disabilities.
