As a Volunteer Presenter for Operation Lifesaver oli.org I find it very disturbing that photographers put there life on the line by trespassing on to the railroads property. That one shot is not worth risking you life for.
I'm also a dispatcher for BNSF railway. Trains are constantly reporting trespassers on the railroad rights of way and property. Sometimes there near misses and to often the trespassers are fatally injured. I can't imagine the grief of the families of these trespassers. Trespassers range all ages. I've given presentations to groups as young as pre-schools and up to senior citizens. Operation Lifesaver’s has approximately 3,000 presenters nationwide deliver free presentations to a wide variety of groups about staying safe around railroad tracks and trains. Request a presenter Here a couple points to keep in mind..... * Railroad tracks, trestles, yards and equipment are private property. Walking or playing on them is illegal – trespassers are subject to arrest and fines. Too often the penalty is death. * In 2005 at least 485 people were killed and 386 were injured while trespassing on railroad rights of way and property. Down the Railroad

The railroad tracks west of Granby, Colorado. Among other trains, Amtrak's 'California Zephyr' comes by here twice a day.
