What’s the hottest gift of the year for the weather enthusiast? It’s the 2014 Climate Models Calendar, featuring the world’s hottest climate scientists posing in front of provocative backgrounds. The Climate Models Calendar is a crowd-funded project that raised $10,000 to make this humorous calendar of “climate models”, and includes information about the climate models’ research, favorite datasets, and has memorable dates in weather and climate history.

While a cold wave has gripped much of the contiguous U.S., including at least one all-time record in Oregon, unusual warmth has affected far northern Alaska. The topsy-turvy temperature regime is the result of a pronounced ridge and trough over western North America. Here is a summary of the temperatures.
