Today will be sunny with a high near 21C(70F). Tonight will see cloudy periods but clearing again this evening. An overnight low of 9C(48F) is forecast. ============================================================== The packing party went well yesterday. As well as packing we got a few odd jobs attended to. The gras was cut, the edges were trimmed and the deck was leveled. It's all ready for a new owner. Abby came with me and got to play with Karma, the bull mastiff and Browning the yellow lab. She sure looked small beside those 2 dogs. ===============================================================

Names of Suspects Released by RCMP Portage Daily Graphic A second man was taken into custody Thursday afternoon in a recent flurry of activity in the Amber McFarland murder investigation. Portage la Prairie RCMP Insp. Jean-Marc Nadeau said "a 39-year-old male was arrested" in connection to the case.
Although the RCMP are not releasing names or any further information, sources have identified the second individual taken in for questioning as McFarland’s ex-boyfriend, Kelly Garrioch. Witnesses said they saw authorities escorting Garrioch out of his place of employment around 2 p.m. Thursday.
The first arrest was made about 3 p.m. Wednesday. Police confirmed they had taken a 40-year-old man into custody. The joint operation between Portage RCMP and the D Division Major Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at the home known to be occupied by Graham Saxon and several family members Wednesday. This is the second search of private property by police in recent weeks. ===============================================================

The 24 year old Portage woman has been missing since last October.
This afternoon the Mounties arrested a 39 year old man in Portage.
RCMP Inspector Jean-Marc Nadeau says both both suspects are being held in Winnipeg, but wouldn't say much more than that.
However, he concedes there's been some movement in the investigation that's allowed the arrests to take place.
Amber McFarland's mother Lori calls the arrests good news for the family, adding they haven't been given any more information than anyone else.
She understands it's a long process, but is hopeful this will lead to some finality, especially with Amber's 25th birthday coming up later this month. ============================================================

It's been held every year for a 137 years making it the longest running fair in western Canada. I haven't attended in years. The rides and farm exhibits don't hold any interest for me anymore. The area is cramped this year with construction of the new recreation center ongoing. Abby and me ran into a couple of dogs from the Dog Show this weekend. There were some really nice dogs there. Abby was in her best behavior as we walked past the area they were exercising in. She was unleashed and showed a lot of interest in the other dogs but stayed by my side. Some of the show dogs were leashed but tugging at the handlers. ============================================================

=============================================================== COPP Tournament Successful from Portageonline.com Yesterday saw 88 golfers take part in the Citizens On Patrol tournament at the Portage Golf Club. Funds raised go to Kidsport Manitoba Central Region, and COPP member Rose says about $2000 was raised. She adds this event serves two purposes for COPP -- raising awareness of the group and helping out the community. She's grateful to many businesses that made donations to the event. COPP Provincial Coordinator Tracey Proctor sees this event as an example of working with community partners. She notes the Portage COPP has a strong relationship with the RCMP and the city, which benefits the community. Kidsport Central Region Co-chair Justin McCabe points out $5100 came to Portage last year from Kidsport, and is pleased the local support continues. Regional Manager Cindy Kowalski adds this is a critical time for Kidsport, so all kids can be involved in sports. ==============================================================
