A gentle drizzle has heralded the approach of the remnants of TS Barry. We'll look for the heavy stuff to be on us by 8 p.m. local and see if I can get the Oak tree fuzzies from fouling the wind and rain indicators.
On another note, I've stopped tweaking the temperature readings for indicated temperature. I've been trying to find some happy medium between what I used to have before I sent in my first base station to get fixed, and also to account for errors given by the fact I live on a block surrounded by tall trees, consisting of mostly Oaks. The area I live in is an old park that was developed in 1940, and they attempted to leave as many trees as possible, which is what drew my wife and I to this area. It can make it about 10 degrees cooler during the summer and also makes it more bearable during the winter.
However, this is why I'm not in concurrence with the station to the south of me, as he's in an area where the trees are much fewer and smaller, and also from KJFK airport, which is more open, exposed and perched on the edge of Jamaica Bay. I decided this after verifying the station with another thermometer on the property, and thinking it's wrong to compensate to emulate the weather off of the block. We'll see how this works, and maybe after time I'll start getting better marks from MADIS if I stop monkeying around with the temperature readings.
p.s. I had to reset the rain indicator, as I'm still getting wild readings from external RF interference. I haven't nailed the suspect, but I believe the last culprit was the water company driving it's truck through the area to poll the wireless meters and it spiked my rain indicator from 0 to 96" of rain on a clear day. I wonder if AWEKAS has dumped me yet for all of the bad readings. I lost 0.05 from the total rain for this storm when I did that...
