Hello everyone, this is my first blog! I will begin doing tropical updates soon, and even planned on doing one tonight, however, I felt the wildfires that were threatening my area were more important.
Before getting to that, Many here do not know me, so for my first blog I would like to introduce myself. My name is Zack, and I have over eight years of forecasting experience. I started out with tropical meteorology, and it is my main interest, however, I now also forecast severe wx, winter wx, and fire wx. It is my passion and I hope you will all enjoy reading my blog.
Now to the wildfires:
Yesterday, Lee was bringing my area ( Northwest Louisiana) some rain showers and gusty winds. The highest wind gust reported in my city was 44 mph, but sustained winds never got over 30. However, last night, a cold front came through, drying things out, and the winds didn't decrease much. This made for explosive fire potential, and many extremely dangerous wildfires broke out this afternoon across Eastern Texas and Northwestern Louisiana. As an extreme weather videographer and storm chaser, I wanted the opportunity to check out these fires, I never got in the way of operations of firefighters and stayed at a safe distance.

This particular fire was near Oil city, Louisiana, and has so far damaged a few structures and causing some areas to be evacuated, but it is contained, and not currently spreading.
The fire danger will not be as high tomorrow, although dry, breezy conditions will mean fires may still spread.
I hope you enjoyed reading this, and I will have video uploaded sometime tomorrow!
