We loaded some old foamies and a blanket, not to mention some fuel, some edible liquids including water and a small bag of food on to the boat and found that the batteries were too low to start - I had left the main switch and the VHF radio on. I used to leave the bilge blower on constantly just so I would hear it as I shut down and remember to turn the batteries off but the electrician decided the blower should be always powered so that does not work any more. I a bit puzzled that the batteries (about a year and a half old and forty hours running and fully charged) would drain in a few days with just the VHF and the bilge pump connected. I ran back here with the car to get a spare battery and just barely got a start. We left the dock at about 1800 looking for a gunk hole to spend the night. I figured farther and slower were best so we wandered about 30 km due south with some detours to the big Salish Sea and a couple of tidal passages which we accidently arrived at with mild following current. This week end is "B.C. Day" so there was lots of boat traffic and most anchorages were full but we had an old copy of a well known sailor's advice for this area and it said: "Panther Cove". We could not see into the cove due to the setting sun but poked in with faith in the book. Dropped one hook and sat there to see where we were. Were we were was just about the only quiet cove on this day. No one else came in but the Kingfishers were fairly raucus and an Ospry was fishing - Otters splashed about and the Racoons chatted and did chores late into the night.
