... Winter Storm Watch in effect from Friday afternoon through Saturday afternoon...
The National Weather Service in Missoula has issued a Winter Storm Watch... which is in effect from Friday afternoon through Saturday afternoon.
* Impacts/timing: a moisture plume will cause widespread precipitation starting late Friday through Saturday. This moisture will interact with a strong Arctic front pushing southward out of Canada. The front will cause snow levels to drop dramatically. Many valley locations will receive rain... which will then change to snow... followed by very cold temperatures. Strong easterly winds are anticipated with the Arctic front, which could cause areas of blowing and drifting snow. Areas east of Highway 93... from Eureka to Arlee... are anticipated to receive the biggest impact from this system.
* Snow accumulations: valleys: 3 to 6 inches possible... locally up to 9 inches in the Glacier park area. Mountains: 8 to 16 inches possible by Saturday afternoon.
* Winds: east 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph possible near the mouth of favored canyons... such as badrock.
* Locations impacted include... Highway 93 Eureka to Whitefish... bad Rock Canyon... Essex... Highway 83 Bigfork to Swan Lake... Marias Pass... Polebridge... Flathead Lake... Flathead Valley... Mission Valley... Polson... Highway 200 Bonner to Greenough... Highway 83 Seeley Lake to Condon
