Thanks!

They're still cute, though. They're the R2D2s of the bird-world, with all their beeps, clicks, whirrs, buzzes, and other sounds they make. :D

Me personally, I'd get rid of ACs *and* ratings if only to stop the backbiting/competition, and hurt feelings (eg, when getting slammed), and give the AC-hogs something better to do, *and* give the trolls slamming pix *nothing* to do, but that's just me, and I ain't WU admin.

What bugged me about this incident was the "grudge" against the pic, killing it for the *3rd* time even after someone else approved it. That, plus someone taking his/her/its best shot slamming both this *and* "Hannibal", as if that'd have me curled up into a ball crying myself to sleep or something, is what makes continued posting pix here that much less "comfortable", knowing someone could screw even with already-approved pix, even past pix in my gallery. Admin doesn't want to address that (I *did* specifically bring it up, and got zero reply to-date), so that's that. Done deal. Mmmmbuh-bye.

Hey, I'm no Cesar Chavez or even Cesar Romero, but maybe if others would draw the same "line in the sand" and do the same, maybe *then* something might change.

Attica! Attica! Attica! :D

Happen to agree with your philosophy...guess this means you WON'T be running for any political offices anytime soon then??? So,'CROW' is definitely Not on Le Menu either....You know,,I did notice that there used to be like almost 2,million or more pix posted here last year,,now we are down to 1/mill-6 something..hmmmmm seems to be a trend,,and I know some folks are just taking a hiatus,,cos this can be addictive,,others like you,,and Kathy feel a bit more strongly about needing some 'change' here,,and then, there are folks like me,,,who sit in the middle somewhere between bad food and service, and excellent food and service,,and even get an occasional HUG!...sometimes,the rewards are worth a little more, and sometimes,I wanna rip someone's head off!!!..[ :@ -Angelic Smile-]

Naw, I appreciate the words, but I'm done. A situation came up, and I tried getting it resolved, but it wasn't. No hard feelings or anything, but if you're not willing to walk, nothing will *ever* change. It's just a matter of principle (something a lot of people *don't* understand).

Why should Boss-Man give you a raise/promotion/etc., if he knows no matter how many times you ask and he says no, you'll *still* keep working there? Why should surly waitstaff at a diner change, if people *still* keep eating there?

Oh, for the record, "Hannibal" was in *my* gallery -- *only* -- and never ever made it to "Outdoors".

Soooo, while I'm not posting new pix here, I'm still around.

Hiya Gene!!.I can't believe it!SOMEONE ELSE out there who LOVES STARLINGS TOO!!! [not Clarice]..ha,,I see that Hannibal is loaded up though,in your gallery..what's the big deal anyway?? It seems OKAY to show T and A on here though...noting that the lewd ad's seem to be [at least whenever I get on here] gracing the pages, and honestly,,I am offended by it being thrown in my face,,but,I just ignore as best I can,,holler to no-one in particular, and move on..Like CABLE T.V..remember back when,,,it was awesome to be able to watch shows WITHOUT f'n commercials playing longer than the actual show...[don't get ME started!!]..Anyway,,what you do for your friends here on W/U means WAY MORE than you realize,,so,,stop being selfish and get your butt back here, afore I kick it!!! Do you have any idea how many of us have felt/experienced EXACTLY! what you have, but,we're still trudging along, because we have a very special BOND that cannot be broken,,so please don't put another kink in the W/U-family chain...life is bad enough without having our W/U experience mucked up too!!! [is it working yet??]Okay,,nuff said...BTW It IS amazing how many sounds these birds mimic,,and it quite lengthy...I once thought some hawks were flying around til I realized,it was some starlings,,also,,thought someone was whistling, til I realized, huh! Starlings,,amazing little creatures, like Blackbirds,,they do a great job of cleaning our yard of unwanted bug-pests! HUGS AND LOVE YA!!! :-D

Thanks and thanks!

They "ruffle" themselves and spike out their feathers, then just as quickly smooth out to half their previous volume. :D

And thanks for the nice words. And I'm okay with my decision. I was *hoping* for a more positive reply, but, alas, didn't get one. Eh, 'sokay.

Shame, though, as I had some really nice ones in the hopper. :\

Gorgeous bits of color on those feathers, Gene. I'm really sorry you're not going to be posting anymore---you're an excellent photographer. And your quotes have been outstanding, and inspired many others to emulate you. But I understand your decision and respect your feelings in all this.

'K, dewds, I still haven't received anything further from admin since last week, so I guess I'll be sticking with my initial decision, and this'll be my last pic here. (Technically, "Hannibal" was posted first. :D )

It's been fun!

Thanks!

Starlings, family Sturnidæ, species 13746, not suitable for assimilation.

I have no idea if there be more than one type, and they're generally consider "pest" birds, but I still like 'em immensely.

I still haven't received a final answer from admin, so until I do, it's still up in the air. My "issue" at this point is that "Hannibal" never made it into at least the "Outdoors" gallery, and that the one responsible for this retarded incident is *still* out there, and can *still* screw with my pix. That's not exactly a comfortable environment to keep posting *anything*.

So, unless/until *that's* resolved, I have to stick with my original decision to walk away.

I saw some around a farm area, and then a much, much smaller one at the beach. sorry for your decision. i'm new on here, and am just looking, and enjoying other people's photos. mine aren't nearly good enough to post yet.

Hey guys, thanks for all the kind words (just got home from work, didn't look at emails yet, but I will as soon as I finish this note), but I really did waste too much ascii on this already. After being asked, I just figured I'd give an explanation, because I know of too many people who just upped and left, and I had no idea if they had computer problems, got annoyed and left, got sick, died, who knows? :)

Before I go into this any more, please know that I'm *not* upset, angry, hurt, or anything of the kind. Those who know me in AFK life (away from keyboard, ie, Real Life™) know I rather *enjoy* "venting", and I speak my mind often without filtering. Finding crumbs or a spill on a table at work can have me going off on a tirade, but it doesn't "mean anything", y'know? :D

That said, this was just one stupid little incident that just became one-too-many annoyances. Even if I get annoyed at this or that, I still like WU in general and *really* like a lot of the people here, so I'm not "going" anywhere.

That said, let me check my emails, and again, thanks for all the kind words, one and all! :)

Gene, I completely understand, because the kind of nonsense you have been experiencing, is my main complaint too. The arbitrariness of this site is beyond ken. I had a sunset photo to which I had added a faint sunburst rejected as "digital art," "fake photo," and simply "not approved." That, after I had already successfully posted a number of similar shots, and seen others do so, with no problem. I mean, what is the category "manipulated image" FOR??? Just to flag a photo for rejection? One of many reasons I, too, picked up my marbles (such as I could find; lost many of them along the way) and walked away. I, too, do not tolerate BS very well.

A couple of weeks ago I tried to upload a pic of a humming bird that had perished in my pole shed. It was the first pic I tried to post since coming back on line after 3 years absence and I just figured I was doing something wrong. The point of the pic was that if it could happen here it can happen anywhere and to be a warning to others. Now I think I know the rest of the story why it never shown. Pity. Good Luck.

Love this shot and sorry to hear of your decision! Especially since tons of dog pix have been submitted since I've been part of this site! It really is an arbitrary system. Good luck Gene!

Thanks for the info. I don't know much about birds as I just fill the feeder and say "oh, look at those pretty flying things"......except for the quail who clean up the ground.."

Naw, I'll still be here to keep in touch with the nice folx I know here, just not posting new pix, is all.

Can't change what goes on here, but you can always choose not to play.

But I understand, maybe someone had her panties all in a bunch, and decided to NSA my pic, so I deleted and resubmitted it, figuring someone else might not "be having a bad day" No such luck.

And again, this is when I saw it *get approved*, that the rate-this-pic buttons popped up and all, but then, "Hey, it's still not in my gallery!". I look, and it's NSAed!

Enough already. Someone had an obvious grudge against this pic or something, and killed it *after* someone else approved it! I'm just not about to deal with that -- or people like that -- anymore. So, screw it, I'm out...

Their (starlings') feathers are actually colored that way! Whitish tips at each end, that when they don't "fluff out" like that, it looks like simple spots/markings, but when they do, you can see the individual tips on the feathers.

Pretty kewl, I think, which is why starlings are probably my favorite birds. They're also the R2D2s of the bird-world, with all their wheeps and whirrs and buzzes and clicks. :D

Eh. Long and short of it, I just don't suffer idiots very well.

I had a pic of my sister's dog I wanted to post, looking pretty cranky/grouchy (3 days of 90° weather in NYC), and it kept on getting rejected as "not site appropriate".

Really??

People posted pix here of roadkill, doves being torn apart by eagles, an indoor(!) pic of a snake eating a dead mouse, and a pic of a *dog*, *outside* yet, is "not site appropriate"?

Again, *really*??

Funnier still is that the pic *was* approved, for all of a few minutes, before (presumably) the same idiot came around and NSAed it... *again*.

I wrote admin, haven't heard anything back ("silence implies assent"). So, that being the case, I'll just pick up my marbles and play elsewhere.

I'll still look at others' pix, do emails, etc., but I just won't post anything new here anymore.

I like WU in general, but I've gotten... annoyed... beyond what I'm willing to tolerate anymore. Life's just too short.

Tres suave parting quote:

I could warn you, of course, but you would not listen.
I could kill you, but someone else would take your place.
So, I do the only thing I can:  I go.
