Tok, AK (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: Yerrick Crick fast current takes awhile to freeze, but ice does build up on it's rocky bottom, and encroaches from the sides. The current is being squeezed by the cold, the battle is on, a struggle among the forces of nature.

I love your icy river pictures. Do you know what makes the pretty color of the water?

Thank you for giving us something special here. I've seen frozen water, but never a fast-moving stream in the process. I never imagined it would look like this.

Hope you've got plenty of firewood on hand to keep you warm!

Normally aqua water makes me think of tropical seas, but this looks so cold. I would still walk along it though, and dream of aqua seas. Beautiful picture. And thanks for sharing the weather from your part of the country. I love hearing about it.

Thank you Gil, it was very very slick getting to the waters' edge. All the boulders were coated with ice, and would have had no sympathy if I had lost my footing!

Wish I had had a thermometer to measure the temperature of that super-cooled water...

I've lived in Alaska since 1969. I love this wild land. The extremes of the far north shape and affect every living thing. Extremes of weather, elevation, daylight hours, isolation, flora and fauna, nothing in Nature is insignificant.I have a Davis Vantage Pro weather station, uploading to Wunderground, (Turks on the Tundra) the National Weather Service, the Citizen Weather Observation Program and MADIS (Meteorological Assimilation Data Ingest System).
